¹⁹ Jesus said this to indicate the kind of death^(A) by which Peter would glorify God.^(B) Then he said to him, “Follow me!”^(C)

¹⁴ because I know that I will soon put it aside,^(A) as our Lord Jesus Christ has made clear to me.^(B)

²² Jesus answered, “If I want him to remain alive until I return,^(A) what is that to you? You must follow me.”^(B)

²⁰ “Do not be afraid,” Samuel replied. “You have done all this evil;^(A) yet do not turn away from the Lord, but serve the Lord with all your heart.

¹¹ If anyone speaks, they should do so as one who speaks the very words of God.^(A) If anyone serves, they should do so with the strength God provides,^(B) so that in all things God may be praised^(C) through Jesus Christ. To him be the glory and the power for ever and ever. Amen.^(D)

Suffering for Being a Christian

¹² Dear friends, do not be surprised at the fiery ordeal that has come on you^(E) to test you, as though something strange were happening to you. ¹³ But rejoice^(F) inasmuch as you participate in the sufferings of Christ,^(G) so that you may be overjoyed when his glory is revealed.^{(H) 14} If you are insulted because of the name of Christ,^(I) you are blessed,^(J) for the Spirit of glory and of God rests on you.

²⁰ I eagerly expect^(A) and hope that I will in no way be ashamed, but will have sufficient courage^(B) so that now as always Christ will be exalted in my body,^(C) whether by life or by death.^(D)

³² This took place to fulfill what Jesus had said about the kind of death he was going to die.^(A)

³⁶ Simon Peter asked him, “Lord, where are you going?”^(A)

Jesus replied, “Where I am going, you cannot follow now,^(B) but you will follow later.”^(C)

³⁷ Peter asked, “Lord, why can’t I follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.”

³³ He said this to show the kind of death he was going to die.^(A)
