²⁵ So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe.”^(A)

³⁰ So they said to him, “What sign are you going to give us, then, so that we may see it and believe you? What work are you performing?^(A)

¹¹ But when they heard that he was alive and had been seen by her, they would not believe it.

¹⁸ And to whom did he swear that they would not enter his rest, if not to those who were disobedient?^{(A) 19} So we see that they were unable to enter because of unbelief.^(B)

The Rest That God Promised

4 Therefore, while the promise of entering his rest is still open, let us take care that none of you should seem to have failed to reach it.^{(C) 2} For indeed the good news came to us just as to them, but the message they heard did not benefit them because they were not united by faith with those who listened.^[a](D)

¹² Take care, brothers and sisters, that none of you may have an evil, unbelieving heart that turns away from the living God.

⁵ and that he appeared to Cephas, then to the twelve.^{(A) 6} Then he appeared to more than five hundred brothers and sisters at one time, most of whom are still alive, though some have died.^{[a] 7} Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles.^{(B) 8} Last of all, as to one untimely born, he appeared also to me.^(C)

⁴⁰ but God raised him on the third day and allowed him to appear,^{(A) 41} not to all the people but to us who were chosen by God as witnesses and who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.^(B)

³⁰ The God of our ancestors raised up Jesus, whom you had killed by hanging him on a tree.^{(A) 31} God exalted him at his right hand as Leader and Savior that he might give repentance to Israel and forgiveness of sins.^{(B) 32} And we are witnesses to these things, and so is the Holy Spirit whom God has given to those who obey him.”^(C)

⁷ That disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” When Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment, for he had taken it off, and jumped into the sea.^(A)

¹⁴ When she had said this, she turned around and saw Jesus standing there, but she did not know that it was Jesus. ¹⁵ Jesus said to her, “Woman, why are you weeping? Whom are you looking for?” Supposing him to be the gardener, she said to him, “Sir,^[a] if you have carried him away, tell me where you have laid him, and I will take him away.”^{(A) 16} Jesus said to her, “Mary!” She turned and said to him in Hebrew,^[b] “Rabbouni!” (which means Teacher). ¹⁷ Jesus said to her, “Do not touch me, because I have not yet ascended to the Father. But go to my brothers and say to them, ‘I am ascending to my Father and your Father, to my God and your God.’ ”^{(B) 18} Mary Magdalene went and announced to the disciples, “I have seen the Lord,” and she told them that he had said these things to her.^(C)

Jesus Appears to the Disciples

¹⁹ When it was evening on that day, the first day of the week, and the doors were locked where the disciples were, for fear of the Jews, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.”^{(D) 20} After he said this, he showed them his hands and his side. Then the disciples rejoiced when they saw the Lord.^(E)
