²³ If you forgive anyone’s sins, their sins are forgiven; if you do not forgive them, they are not forgiven.”^(A)

¹⁸ “Truly I tell you, whatever you bind on earth will be^[a] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be^[b] loosed in heaven.^(A)

¹⁹ I will give you the keys^(A) of the kingdom of heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be^[a] bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be^[b] loosed in heaven.”^(B)

²⁰ Among them are Hymenaeus^(A) and Alexander,^(B) whom I have handed over to Satan^(C) to be taught not to blaspheme.

⁵ When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralyzed man, “Son, your sins are forgiven.”^(A)

⁶ Now some teachers of the law were sitting there, thinking to themselves, ⁷ “Why does this fellow talk like that? He’s blaspheming! Who can forgive sins but God alone?”^(B)

⁸ Immediately Jesus knew in his spirit that this was what they were thinking in their hearts, and he said to them, “Why are you thinking these things? ⁹ Which is easier: to say to this paralyzed man, ‘Your sins are forgiven,’ or to say, ‘Get up, take your mat and walk’? ¹⁰ But I want you to know that the Son of Man^(C) has authority on earth to forgive sins.” So he said to the man,

³⁸ “Therefore, my friends, I want you to know that through Jesus the forgiveness of sins is proclaimed to you.^{(A) 39} Through him everyone who believes^(B) is set free from every sin, a justification you were not able to obtain under the law of Moses.^(C)

⁴³ All the prophets testify about him^(A) that everyone^(B) who believes^(C) in him receives forgiveness of sins through his name.”^(D)

⁶ The punishment^(A) inflicted on him by the majority is sufficient. ⁷ Now instead, you ought to forgive and comfort him,^(B) so that he will not be overwhelmed by excessive sorrow. ⁸ I urge you, therefore, to reaffirm your love for him. ⁹ Another reason I wrote you^(C) was to see if you would stand the test and be obedient in everything.^{(D) 10} Anyone you forgive, I also forgive. And what I have forgiven—if there was anything to forgive—I have forgiven in the sight of Christ for your sake,

³⁸ Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized,^(A) every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins.^(B) And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.^(C)
