¹⁵ He asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?^(A) Who is it you are looking for?”

Thinking he was the gardener, she said, “Sir, if you have carried him away, tell me where you have put him, and I will get him.”

¹³ They asked her, “Woman, why are you crying?”^(A)

“They have taken my Lord away,” she said, “and I don’t know where they have put him.”^(B)

⁷ Again he asked them, “Who is it you want?”^(A)

“Jesus of Nazareth,” they said.

³⁸ Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, “What do you want?”

They said, “Rabbi”^(A) (which means “Teacher”), “where are you staying?”

⁶ “Don’t be alarmed,” he said. “You are looking for Jesus the Nazarene,^(A) who was crucified. He has risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid him.

⁵ The angel said to the women, “Do not be afraid,^(A) for I know that you are looking for Jesus, who was crucified.

¹⁶ Do not take your servant for a wicked woman; I have been praying here out of my great anguish and grief.”^(A)

⁴ Jesus, knowing all that was going to happen to him,^(A) went out and asked them, “Who is it you want?”^(B)

⁵ In their fright the women bowed down with their faces to the ground, but the men said to them, “Why do you look for the living among the dead?

³⁴ You brood of vipers,^(A) how can you who are evil say anything good? For the mouth speaks^(B) what the heart is full of.
