The Empty Tomb

20 ^(A)Now on the first day of the week ^(B)Mary Magdalene *came early to the tomb, while it *was still dark, and *saw ^(C)the stone already taken away from the tomb. ² So she *ran and *came to Simon Peter and to the other ^(D)disciple whom Jesus loved, and *said to them, “^(E)They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid Him.” ^3 (F)So Peter and the other disciple went forth, and they were going to the tomb. ⁴ The two were running together; and the other disciple ran ahead faster than Peter and came to the tomb first; ⁵ and ^(G)stooping and looking in, he *saw the ^(H)linen wrappings lying there; but he did not go in. ⁶ And so Simon Peter also *came, following him, and entered the tomb; and he *saw the linen wrappings lying there, ⁷ and ^(I)the face-cloth which had been on His head, not lying with the ^(J)linen wrappings, but rolled up in a place by itself. ⁸ So the other disciple who ^(K)had first come to the tomb then also entered, and he saw and believed. ⁹ For as yet ^(L)they did not understand the Scripture, ^(M)that He must rise again from the dead. ¹⁰ So the disciples went away again ^(N)to their own homes.

¹² Then I turned to see the voice that was speaking with me. And having turned I saw ^(A)seven golden lampstands; ¹³ and ^(B)in the middle of the lampstands I saw one ^(C)like ^[a]a son of man, ^(D)clothed in a robe reaching to the feet, and ^(E)girded across His chest with a golden sash. ¹⁴ His head and His ^(F)hair were white like white wool, like snow; and ^(G)His eyes were like a flame of fire. ¹⁵ His ^(H)feet were like burnished bronze, when it has been made to glow in a furnace, and His ^(I)voice was like the sound of many waters. ¹⁶ In His right hand He held ^(J)seven stars, and out of His mouth came a ^(K)sharp two-edged sword; and His ^(L)face was like ^(M)the sun ^[b]shining in its strength.

¹⁷ When I saw Him, I ^(N)fell at His feet like a dead man. And He ^(O)placed His right hand on me, saying, “^(P)Do not be afraid; ^(Q)I am the first and the last, ¹⁸ and the ^(R)living One; and I ^[c](S)was dead, and behold, I am alive forevermore, and I have ^(T)the keys of death and of Hades.
