The Message
From Water to Wine
2 1-3 Three days later there was a wedding in the village of Cana in Galilee. Jesus’ mother was there. Jesus and his disciples were guests also. When they started running low on wine at the wedding banquet, Jesus’ mother told him, “They’re just about out of wine.”
4 Jesus said, “Is that any of our business, Mother—yours or mine? This isn’t my time. Don’t push me.”
5 She went ahead anyway, telling the servants, “Whatever he tells you, do it.”
6-7 Six stoneware water pots were there, used by the Jews for ritual washings. Each held twenty to thirty gallons. Jesus ordered the servants, “Fill the pots with water.” And they filled them to the brim.
8 “Now fill your pitchers and take them to the host,” Jesus said, and they did.
9-10 When the host tasted the water that had become wine (he didn’t know what had just happened but the servants, of course, knew), he called out to the bridegroom, “Everybody I know begins with their finest wines and after the guests have had their fill brings in the cheap stuff. But you’ve saved the best till now!”
11 This act in Cana of Galilee was the first sign Jesus gave, the first glimpse of his glory. And his disciples believed in him.
12 After this he went down to Capernaum along with his mother, brothers, and disciples, and stayed several days.
Tear Down This Temple . . .
13-14 When the Passover Feast, celebrated each spring by the Jews, was about to take place, Jesus traveled up to Jerusalem. He found the Temple teeming with people selling cattle and sheep and doves. The loan sharks were also there in full strength.
15-17 Jesus put together a whip out of strips of leather and chased them out of the Temple, stampeding the sheep and cattle, upending the tables of the loan sharks, spilling coins left and right. He told the dove merchants, “Get your things out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house into a shopping mall!” That’s when his disciples remembered the Scripture, “Zeal for your house consumes me.”
18-19 But the Jews were upset. They asked, “What credentials can you present to justify this?” Jesus answered, “Tear down this Temple and in three days I’ll put it back together.”
20-22 They were indignant: “It took forty-six years to build this Temple, and you’re going to rebuild it in three days?” But Jesus was talking about his body as the Temple. Later, after he was raised from the dead, his disciples remembered he had said this. They then put two and two together and believed both what was written in Scripture and what Jesus had said.
23-25 During the time he was in Jerusalem, those days of the Passover Feast, many people noticed the signs he was displaying and, seeing they pointed straight to God, entrusted their lives to him. But Jesus didn’t entrust his life to them. He knew them inside and out, knew how untrustworthy they were. He didn’t need any help in seeing right through them.

2 Al tercer día(A) se celebró una boda en Caná de Galilea(B), y estaba allí la madre de Jesús(C); 2 y también Jesús fue invitado a la boda, con[a] Sus discípulos(D). 3 Cuando se acabó el vino, la madre de Jesús le dijo*: «No tienen vino». 4 Y Jesús le dijo*: «Mujer(E), ¿qué nos interesa esto a ti y a Mí(F)? Todavía no ha llegado Mi hora(G)». 5 Su madre(H) dijo* a los que servían: «Hagan todo lo que Él les diga».
6 Y había allí seis tinajas de piedra, puestas para ser usadas en el rito de la purificación de los judíos(I); en cada una cabían dos o tres cántaros[b]. 7 Jesús les dijo*: «Llenen de agua las tinajas». Y las llenaron hasta el borde. 8 Entonces les dijo*: «Saquen ahora un poco y llévenlo al mayordomo». Y se lo llevaron. 9 El mayordomo probó el agua convertida en vino(J), sin saber de dónde era, pero los que servían, que habían sacado el agua, lo sabían. Entonces el mayordomo llamó* al novio, 10 y le dijo*: «Todo hombre sirve primero el vino bueno, y cuando ya han tomado bastante(K), entonces el inferior; pero tú has guardado hasta ahora el vino bueno».
11 Este principio de Sus señales[c](L) hizo Jesús en Caná de Galilea(M), y manifestó Su gloria(N), y Sus discípulos creyeron en Él.
12 Después de esto Jesús bajó a Capernaúm(O) con Su madre, Sus hermanos(P) y Sus discípulos(Q); pero no se quedaron allí muchos días.
Jesús echa a los mercaderes del templo
13 La Pascua de los judíos estaba cerca(R), y Jesús subió a Jerusalén(S). 14 (T)En el templo encontró a los que vendían bueyes, ovejas y palomas, y a los que cambiaban dinero allí sentados. 15 Y haciendo un látigo de cuerdas, echó a todos fuera del templo, con las ovejas y los bueyes; desparramó las monedas de los que cambiaban el dinero y volcó las mesas. 16 A los que vendían palomas les dijo(U): «Quiten esto de aquí; no hagan de la casa de Mi Padre(V)una casa de comercio».
17 Sus discípulos(W) se acordaron de que estaba escrito: «El celo por Tu casa me consumirá(X)».
18 Entonces los judíos(Y) le dijeron: «Ya que haces estas cosas, ¿qué señal(Z) nos muestras?». 19 Jesús les respondió: «Destruyan este templo[d], y en tres días lo levantaré(AA)». 20 Entonces los judíos(AB) dijeron: «En cuarenta y seis años fue edificado este templo[e](AC), ¿y Tú lo levantarás en tres días?».
21 Pero Él hablaba del templo[f] de Su cuerpo(AD). 22 Por eso, cuando resucitó de los muertos, Sus discípulos(AE) se acordaron(AF) de que había dicho esto; y creyeron en la Escritura(AG) y en la palabra que Jesús había hablado.
Los primeros creyentes en Jerusalén
23 Cuando Jesús estaba en Jerusalén durante la fiesta de la Pascua(AH), muchos creyeron en Su nombre al ver las señales(AI) que hacía. 24 Pero Jesús, en cambio, no se confiaba en ellos, porque los conocía a todos(AJ), 25 y[g] no tenía necesidad de que nadie le diera testimonio del hombre, porque Él conocía lo que había en el interior del hombre(AK).

Jesus Changes Water Into Wine
2 On the third day a wedding took place at Cana in Galilee.(A) Jesus’ mother(B) was there, 2 and Jesus and his disciples had also been invited to the wedding. 3 When the wine was gone, Jesus’ mother said to him, “They have no more wine.”
4 “Woman,[a](C) why do you involve me?”(D) Jesus replied. “My hour(E) has not yet come.”
5 His mother said to the servants, “Do whatever he tells you.”(F)
6 Nearby stood six stone water jars, the kind used by the Jews for ceremonial washing,(G) each holding from twenty to thirty gallons.[b]
7 Jesus said to the servants, “Fill the jars with water”; so they filled them to the brim.
8 Then he told them, “Now draw some out and take it to the master of the banquet.”
They did so, 9 and the master of the banquet tasted the water that had been turned into wine.(H) He did not realize where it had come from, though the servants who had drawn the water knew. Then he called the bridegroom aside 10 and said, “Everyone brings out the choice wine first and then the cheaper wine after the guests have had too much to drink; but you have saved the best till now.”
11 What Jesus did here in Cana of Galilee was the first of the signs(I) through which he revealed his glory;(J) and his disciples believed in him.(K)
12 After this he went down to Capernaum(L) with his mother(M) and brothers(N) and his disciples. There they stayed for a few days.
Jesus Clears the Temple Courts(O)
13 When it was almost time for the Jewish Passover,(P) Jesus went up to Jerusalem.(Q) 14 In the temple courts he found people selling cattle, sheep and doves,(R) and others sitting at tables exchanging money.(S) 15 So he made a whip out of cords, and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle; he scattered the coins of the money changers and overturned their tables. 16 To those who sold doves he said, “Get these out of here! Stop turning my Father’s house(T) into a market!” 17 His disciples remembered that it is written: “Zeal for your house will consume me.”[c](U)
18 The Jews(V) then responded to him, “What sign(W) can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?”(X)
19 Jesus answered them, “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.”(Y)
20 They replied, “It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?” 21 But the temple he had spoken of was his body.(Z) 22 After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said.(AA) Then they believed the scripture(AB) and the words that Jesus had spoken.
23 Now while he was in Jerusalem at the Passover Festival,(AC) many people saw the signs(AD) he was performing and believed(AE) in his name.[d] 24 But Jesus would not entrust himself to them, for he knew all people. 25 He did not need any testimony about mankind,(AF) for he knew what was in each person.(AG)

20 Atëherë Judenjtë thanë: “U deshën dyzet e gjashtë vjet që të ndërtohet ky tempull, dhe ti do ta ngresh për tri ditë?.”
21 Por ai fliste për tempullin e trupit të vet.
22 Kur, më pas, ai ishte ringjallur prej së vdekuri, dishepujt e vet u kujtuan se ai këtë ua kishtë thënë dhe u besuan Shkrimin dhe fjalëve që kishte thënë Jezusi.
23 Dhe kur qe në Jeruzalem për festën e Pashkës, shumë vetë besuan në emrin e tij duke parë shenjat që bënte,
24 por Jezusit nuk u zinte besë atyre, sepse i njihte të gjithë,
25 dhe sepse nuk kishte nevojë që ndokush të jepte dëshmi për njeriun, sepse ai e dinte ç’kishte përbrenda njeriut.
