²² After he was raised from the dead, his disciples recalled what he had said.^(A) Then they believed the scripture^(B) and the words that Jesus had spoken.

¹⁶ At first his disciples did not understand all this.^(A) Only after Jesus was glorified^(B) did they realize that these things had been written about him and that these things had been done to him.

⁴ I have told you this, so that when their time comes you will remember^(A) that I warned you about them. I did not tell you this from the beginning because I was with you,^(B)

²⁶ But the Advocate,^(A) the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name,^(B) will teach you all things^(C) and will remind you of everything I have said to you.^(D)

⁷ ‘The Son of Man^(A) must be delivered over to the hands of sinners, be crucified and on the third day be raised again.’ ”^{(B) 8} Then they remembered his words.^(C)

¹⁷ His disciples remembered that it is written: “Zeal for your house will consume me.”^[a](A)

¹⁶ Then I remembered what the Lord had said: ‘John baptized with^[a] water,^(A) but you will be baptized with^[b] the Holy Spirit.’^(B)

⁸ Finally the other disciple, who had reached the tomb first,^(A) also went inside. He saw and believed. ⁹ (They still did not understand from Scripture^(B) that Jesus had to rise from the dead.)^(C)
