¹⁶ And he told those who sold the pigeons, “Take these things away; do not make ^(A)my Father's house a house of trade.”

¹³ He said to them, “It is written, ^(A)‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but ^(B)you make it a den of robbers.”

^11 (A)Has this house, ^(B)which is called by my name, ^(C)become a den of robbers in your eyes? Behold, I myself have seen it, declares the Lord.

⁴⁹ And he said to them, “Why were you looking for me? Did you not know that ^(A)I must be in ^(B)my Father's house?”^[a]

¹⁷ And he was teaching them and saying to them, “Is it not written, ^(A)‘My house shall be called a house of prayer for all the nations’? But ^(B)you have made it a den of robbers.”

Israel's Irresponsible Leaders

¹⁴ They have eyes full of adultery,^{[a] (A)}insatiable for sin. They entice unsteady souls. They have hearts ^(B)trained in greed. ^(C)Accursed children! ¹⁵ Forsaking the right way, ^(D)they have gone astray. They have followed ^(E)the way of Balaam, the son of Beor, who loved ^(F)gain from wrongdoing,

¹⁷ But Jesus answered them, “My Father is working until now, and I am working.”

³ And ^(A)in their greed they will exploit you ^(B)with false words. ^(C)Their condemnation from long ago is not idle, and their destruction is not asleep.
