³⁰Jesus therefore, when he had taken the vinegar, said: It is consummated. And bowing his head, he gave up the ghost.

³¹Then the Jews, (because it was the parasceve,) that the bodies might not remain on the cross on the sabbath day, (for that was a great sabbath day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

³²The soldiers therefore came; and they broke the legs of the first, and of the other that was crucified with him.

³⁰When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.

³¹The Jews therefore, because it was the preparation, that the bodies should not remain upon the cross on the sabbath day, (for that sabbath day was an high day,) besought Pilate that their legs might be broken, and that they might be taken away.

³²Then came the soldiers, and brake the legs of the first, and of the other which was crucified with him.

³⁰When he had received the drink, Jesus said, “It is finished.”^(A) With that, he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

³¹Now it was the day of Preparation,^(B) and the next day was to be a special Sabbath. Because the Jewish leaders did not want the bodies left on the crosses^(C) during the Sabbath, they asked Pilate to have the legs broken and the bodies taken down. ³²The soldiers therefore came and broke the legs of the first man who had been crucified with Jesus, and then those of the other.^(D)
