^16 (A)Then he delivered Him to them to be crucified. Then they took Jesus ^[a]and led Him away.

²⁴ So ^(A)Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they requested. ^25 (B)And he released ^[a]to them the one they requested, who for rebellion and murder had been thrown into prison; but he delivered Jesus to their will.

²⁶ Then he released Barabbas to them; and when ^(A)he had ^[a]scourged Jesus, he delivered Him to be crucified.

The Soldiers Mock Jesus^(B)

^27 (C)Then the soldiers of the governor took Jesus into the ^[b]Praetorium and gathered the whole ^[c]garrison around Him. ²⁸ And they ^(D)stripped Him and ^(E)put a scarlet robe on Him. ^29 (F)When they had ^[d]twisted a crown of thorns, they put it on His head, and a reed in His right hand. And they bowed the knee before Him and mocked Him, saying, “Hail, King of the Jews!” ³⁰ Then ^(G)they spat on Him, and took the reed and struck Him on the head. ³¹ And when they had mocked Him, they took the robe off Him, put His own clothes on Him, ^(H)and led Him away to be crucified.

^15 (A)So Pilate, wanting to gratify the crowd, released Barabbas to them; and he delivered Jesus, after he had scourged Him, to be ^(B)crucified.

The Soldiers Mock Jesus^(C)

^16 (D)Then the soldiers led Him away into the hall called ^[a]Praetorium, and they called together the whole garrison. ¹⁷ And they clothed Him with purple; and they twisted a crown of thorns, put it on His head, ¹⁸ and began to salute Him, “Hail, King of the Jews!” ¹⁹ Then they ^(E)struck Him on the head with a reed and spat on Him; and bowing the knee, they worshiped Him. ²⁰ And when they had ^(F)mocked Him, they took the purple off Him, put His own clothes on Him, and led Him out to crucify Him.
