⁴⁰ They shouted in reply, “Not this man but Barabbas!” Now Barabbas was a rebel.^(A)

¹³ The God of Abraham and Isaac and Jacob,^[a] the God of our ancestors, has glorified his servant^[b] Jesus, whom you handed over and rejected in the presence of Pilate, though he had decided to release him.^{(A) 14} But you rejected the holy and righteous^[c] one and asked to have a murderer given to you,^(B)

²⁵ He released the man they asked for, the one who had been put in prison for insurrection and murder, and he handed Jesus over as they wished.

¹⁸ Then they all shouted out together, “Away with this fellow! Release Barabbas for us!”^{(A) 19} (This was a man who had been put in prison for an insurrection that had taken place in the city and for murder.)

¹⁵ So Pilate, wishing to satisfy the crowd, released Barabbas for them, and after flogging Jesus he handed him over to be crucified.^(A)

⁷ Now a man called Barabbas was in prison with the insurrectionists who had committed murder during the insurrection.

²⁶ So he released Barabbas for them, and after flogging Jesus he handed him over to be crucified.^(A)

¹⁶ At that time they had a notorious prisoner called Jesus^[a] Barabbas.
