³¹ Pilate said, “Take him yourselves and judge him by your own law.”

“But we have no right to execute anyone,” they objected.

¹⁵ But they shouted, “Take him away! Take him away! Crucify him!”

“Shall I crucify your king?” Pilate asked.

“We have no king but Caesar,” the chief priests answered.

⁶ As soon as the chief priests and their officials saw him, they shouted, “Crucify! Crucify!”

But Pilate answered, “You take him and crucify him.^(A) As for me, I find no basis for a charge against him.”^(B)

⁷ The Jewish leaders insisted, “We have a law, and according to that law he must die,^(C) because he claimed to be the Son of God.”^(D)

¹⁸ When his accusers got up to speak, they did not charge him with any of the crimes I had expected. ¹⁹ Instead, they had some points of dispute^(A) with him about their own religion^(B) and about a dead man named Jesus who Paul claimed was alive. ²⁰ I was at a loss how to investigate such matters; so I asked if he would be willing to go to Jerusalem and stand trial there on these charges.^(C)

²⁶ this is what the Sovereign Lord says: Take off the turban, remove the crown.^(A) It will not be as it was: The lowly will be exalted and the exalted will be brought low.^{(B) 27} A ruin! A ruin! I will make it a ruin! The crown will not be restored until he to whom it rightfully belongs shall come;^(C) to him I will give it.’^(D)

⁴ For the Israelites will live many days without king or prince,^(A) without sacrifice^(B) or sacred stones,^(C) without ephod^(D) or household gods.^{(E) 5} Afterward the Israelites will return and seek^(F) the Lord their God and David their king.^(G) They will come trembling^(H) to the Lord and to his blessings in the last days.^(I)
