²³ Jesus answered him, “If I have spoken evil, bear witness of the evil; but if well, why do you strike Me?”

²⁰ For ^(A)what credit is it if, when you are beaten for your faults, you take it patiently? But when you do good and suffer, if you take it patiently, this is commendable before God. ²¹ For ^(B)to this you were called, because Christ also suffered for ^[a]us, ^(C)leaving ^[b]us an example, that you should follow His steps:

^23 (E)who, when He was reviled, did not revile in return; when He suffered, He did not threaten, but ^(F)committed Himself to Him who judges righteously;

The Spiritual War

10 Now ^(A)I, Paul, myself am pleading with you by the meekness and gentleness of Christ—^(B)who in presence am lowly among you, but being absent am bold toward you.

^39 (A)But I tell you not to resist an evil person. ^(B)But whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also.

² And the high priest Ananias commanded those who stood by him ^(A)to strike him on the mouth. ³ Then Paul said to him, “God will strike you, you whitewashed wall! For you sit to judge me according to the law, and ^(B)do you command me to be struck contrary to the law?”

⁴ And those who stood by said, “Do you revile God’s high priest?”

⁵ Then Paul said, ^(C)“I did not know, brethren, that he was the high priest; for it is written, ^(D)‘You shall not speak evil of a ruler of your people.’ ”
