John 18:20-22
New Life Version
20 Jesus said, “I have spoken very plain words to the world. I have always taught in the Jewish place of worship and in the house of God. It is where the Jews go all the time. My words have not been said in secret. 21 Why do you ask Me? Ask those who have heard what I said to them. They know what I said.”
22 Then one of the soldiers standing there hit Jesus with his hand. He said, “Is that how You talk to the head religious leaders?”

20 “I have spoken openly to the world,” Jesus replied. “I always taught in synagogues(A) or at the temple,(B) where all the Jews come together. I said nothing in secret.(C) 21 Why question me? Ask those who heard me. Surely they know what I said.”
22 When Jesus said this, one of the officials(D) nearby slapped him in the face.(E) “Is this the way you answer the high priest?” he demanded.

21 Why askest thou me? ask them which heard me, what I have said unto them: behold, they know what I said.
22 And when he had thus spoken, one of the officers which stood by struck Jesus with the palm of his hand, saying, Answerest thou the high priest so?
