18 After Jesus had spoken these words, he went out with his disciples across the Kidron Valley to a place where there was a garden, which he and his disciples entered.

³⁹ He came out and went, as was his custom, to the Mount of Olives, and the disciples followed him.^{(A) 40} When he reached the place, he said to them, “Pray that you may not come into the time of trial.”^[a](B)

³¹ but I do as the Father has commanded me, so that the world may know that I love the Father. Rise, let us be on our way.^(A)

¹⁴ They set to work and removed the altars that were in Jerusalem, and all the altars for offering incense they took away and threw into the Wadi Kidron.^(A)

¹⁶ King Asa even removed his mother Maacah from being queen mother because she had made an abominable image for Asherah. Asa cut down her image, crushed it, and burned it at the Wadi Kidron.^(A)
