Jesus Prays for Himself
17 Jesus spoke these things, looked up to heaven, and said, ‘Father, the hour has come. Glorify your Son so that the Son(A) may glorify you,(B) 2 since you gave him authority over all people,[a](C) so that he may give eternal life(D) to everyone you have given him.(E) 3 This is eternal life: that they may know you, the only(F) true(G) God, and the one you have sent(H) #– #Jesus Christ.(I) 4 I have glorified you on the earth by completing the work you gave me to do. 5 Now, Father,(J) glorify me in your presence with that glory(K) I had with you before the world existed.(L)

6 ‘I have revealed your name(M) to the people you gave me(N) from the world.(O) They were yours, you gave them to me,(P) and they have kept your word.(Q) 7 Now they know that everything you have given me is from you, 8 because I have given them the words you gave me.(R) They have received them and have known for certain that I came from you.(S) They have believed that you sent me.
9 ‘I pray[b] for them. I am not praying for the world but for those you have given me,(T) because they are yours. 10 Everything I have is yours, and everything you have is mine,(U) and I am glorified in them. 11 I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you.(V) Holy(W) Father, protect[c] them by your name(X) that you have given me, so that they may be one(Y) as we are(Z) one. 12 While I was with them, I was protecting them by your name that you have given me. I guarded(AA) them and not one of them is lost, except the son of destruction,[d] so that the Scripture(AB) may be fulfilled.(AC) 13 Now I am coming to you, and I speak these things in the world so that they may have my joy completed in them. 14 I have given them your word. The world hated(AD) them because they are not of the world,(AE) just as I am not of the world.(AF) 15 I am not praying that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.(AG) 16 They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.(AH) 17 Sanctify(AI) them by the truth;(AJ) your word is truth. 18 As you sent me into the world,(AK) I also have sent them into the world. 19 I sanctify myself for them, so that they also may be sanctified by the truth.

20 ‘I pray not only for these, but also for those who believe in me through their word. 21 May they all be one,(AL) as you, Father, are in me and I am in you.(AM) May they also be[e] in us, so that the world may believe you sent me. 22 I have given them the glory(AN) you have given me, so that they may be one as we are one. 23 I am in them and you are in me,(AO) so that they may be made completely one, that the world may know you have sent me and have loved(AP) them as you have loved me.(AQ)
24 ‘Father, I want those you have given me to be with me where I am,(AR) so that they will see my glory, which you have given me because you loved me before the world’s foundation. 25 Righteous Father, the world has not known you. However, I have known you,(AS) and they have known that you sent me. 26 I made your name(AT) known to them and will continue to make it known, so that the love you have loved me with may be in them and I may be in them.’(AU)

17 Jesus spoke these words, lifted up His eyes to heaven, and said: “Father, (A)the hour has come. Glorify Your Son, that Your Son also may glorify You, 2 (B)as You have given Him authority over all flesh, that He [a]should give eternal life to as many (C)as You have given Him. 3 And (D)this is eternal life, that they may know You, (E)the only true God, and Jesus Christ (F)whom You have sent. 4 (G)I have glorified You on the earth. (Q)I do not pray for the world but for those whom You have given Me, for they are Yours. 10 And all Mine are Yours, and (R)Yours are Mine, and I am glorified in them. 11 (S)Now I am no longer in the world, but these are in the world, and I come to You. Holy Father, (T)keep[d] through Your name those whom You have given Me, that they may be one (U)as We are. 12 While I was with them [e]in the world, (V)I kept them in [f]Your name. 20 “I do not pray for these alone, but also for those who [j]will believe in Me through their word; 21 (AG)that they all may be one, as (AH)You, Father, are in Me, and I in You; that they also may be one in Us, that the world may believe that You sent Me. 22 And the (AI)glory which You gave Me I have given them, (AJ)that they may be one just as We are one: 23 I in them, and You in Me; (AK)that they may be made perfect in one, and that the world may know that You have sent Me, and have loved them as You have loved Me.
24 (AL)“Father, I desire that they also whom You gave Me may be with Me where I am, that they may behold My glory which You have given Me; (AM)for You loved Me before the foundation of the world. 25 O righteous Father! (AN)The world has not known You, but (AO)I have known You; and (AP)these have known that You sent Me. 26 (AQ)And I have declared to them Your name, and will declare it, that the love (AR)with which You loved Me may be in them, and I in them.”

2 likesom du har gitt ham makt over alt kjød, forat han skal gi evig liv til alle dem som du har gitt ham;
3 og dette er det evige liv at de kjenner dig, den eneste sanne Gud, og ham du utsendte, Jesus Kristus.
4 Jeg har herliggjort dig på jorden idet jeg har fullbyrdet den gjerning som du har gitt mig å gjøre;
5 og nu, herliggjør du mig, Fader, hos dig selv med den herlighet jeg hadde hos dig før verden var til!
6 Jeg har åpenbaret ditt navn for de mennesker som du gav mig av verden; de var dine, og du gav mig dem, og de har holdt ditt ord.

13 Men nu kommer jeg til dig, og dette taler jeg i verden forat de skal ha min glede fullkommen i sig.
14 Jeg har gitt dem ditt ord, og verden har hatet dem fordi de ikke er av verden, likesom jeg ikke er av verden.
15 Jeg beder ikke at du skal ta dem ut av verden, men at du skal bevare dem fra det onde.
16 De er ikke av verden, likesom jeg ikke er av verden.
17 Hellige dem i sannheten! ditt ord er sannhet.
18 Likesom du har utsendt mig til verden, har også jeg utsendt dem til verden,
19 og jeg helliger mig for dem, forat også de skal være helliget i sannhet.
20 Men jeg beder ikke for disse alene, men også for dem som ved deres ord kommer til å tro på mig,
21 at de alle må være ett, likesom du, Fader, i mig, og jeg i dig, at også de må være ett i oss. forat verden skal tro at du har utsendt mig.
22 Og den herlighet som du har gitt mig, den har jeg gitt dem, forat de skal være ett, likesom vi er ett,

24 Fader! jeg vil at hvor jeg er, der skal også de som du har gitt mig, være hos mig, forat de skal se min herlighet, som du har gitt mig, fordi du har elsket mig før verdens grunnvoll blev lagt.
25 Rettferdige Fader! verden har ikke kjent dig; men jeg har kjent dig, og disse har kjent at du har utsendt mig,
