²⁰ “I ask not only on behalf of these but also on behalf of those who believe in me through their word,

⁴¹ So those who welcomed his message were baptized, and that day about three thousand persons were added.

⁶ “I have made your name known to those whom you gave me from the world. They were yours, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word.^{(A) 7} Now they know that everything you have given me is from you, ⁸ for the words that you gave to me I have given to them, and they have received them and know in truth that I came from you, and they have believed that you sent me.^{(B) 9} I am asking on their behalf; I am not asking on behalf of the world but on behalf of those whom you gave me, because they are yours.^{(C) 10} All mine are yours, and yours are mine, and I have been glorified in them.^{(D) 11} And now I am no longer in the world, but they are in the world, and I am coming to you. Holy Father, protect them in your name that you have given me, so that they may be one, as we are one.^(E)

⁴ But many of those who heard the word believed, and they numbered about five thousand.^(A)

¹⁸ For I will not be so bold as to speak of anything except what Christ has accomplished through me to win obedience from the gentiles, by word and deed, ¹⁹ by the power of signs and wonders, by the power of the Spirit,^[a] so that from Jerusalem and as far around as Illyricum I have fully proclaimed the gospel of Christ.^(A)

¹¹ He himself granted that some are apostles, prophets, evangelists, pastors and teachers^(A)

²⁶ but is now disclosed and through the prophetic writings is made known to all the gentiles, according to the command of the eternal God, to bring about the obedience of faith^(A)—
