^14 (A)I have given them your word, and ^(B)the world has hated them ^(C)because they are not of the world, ^(D)just as I am not of the world.

^16 (A)They are not of the world, just as I am not of the world.

The Hatred of the World

^18 (A)“If the world hates you, know that it has hated me before it hated you. ^19 (B)If you were of the world, the world would love you as its own; but because ^(C)you are not of the world, but I chose you out of the world, therefore the world hates you. ²⁰ Remember the word that I said to you: ^(D)‘A servant is not greater than his master.’ If they persecuted me, ^(E)they will also persecute you. ^(F)If they kept my word, they will also keep yours. ²¹ But ^(G)all these things they will do to you ^(H)on account of my name, ^(I)because they do not know him who sent me.

¹⁹ We know that we are from God, and ^(A)the whole world lies in the power of the evil one.

²⁰ And we know that the Son of God has come and ^(B)has given us understanding, so that we may know ^(C)him who is true; and we are in him who is true, in his Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and ^(D)eternal life.

²³ He said to them, ^(A)“You are from below; I am from above. ^(B)You are of this world; ^(C)I am not of this world.

^5 (A)They are from the world; therefore they speak from the world, and ^(B)the world listens to them. ⁶ We are from God. ^(C)Whoever knows God listens to us; whoever is not from God does not listen to us. By this we know ^(D)the Spirit of truth and ^(E)the spirit of error.

⁷ The world cannot hate you, but ^(A)it hates me because I testify about it that ^(B)its works are evil.

⁸ In one month ^(A)I destroyed the three shepherds. But I became impatient with them, and they also detested me.
