Jesus Prays for All Believers

¹⁰ For if, while we were God’s enemies,^(A) we were reconciled^(B) to him through the death of his Son, how much more, having been reconciled, shall we be saved through his life!^(C)

A Church Divided Over Leaders

¹⁰ I appeal to you, brothers and sisters,^[a](A) in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, that all of you agree with one another in what you say and that there be no divisions among you,^(B) but that you be perfectly united^(C) in mind and thought.

¹⁶ So from now on we regard no one from a worldly^(A) point of view. Though we once regarded Christ in this way, we do so no longer. ¹⁷ Therefore, if anyone is in Christ,^(B) the new creation^(C) has come:^[a] The old has gone, the new is here!^{(D) 18} All this is from God,^(E) who reconciled us to himself through Christ^(F) and gave us the ministry of reconciliation: ¹⁹ that God was reconciling the world to himself in Christ, not counting people’s sins against them.^(G) And he has committed to us the message of reconciliation. ²⁰ We are therefore Christ’s ambassadors,^(H) as though God were making his appeal through us.^(I) We implore you on Christ’s behalf: Be reconciled to God.^(J)

¹³ But now in Christ Jesus you who once^(A) were far away have been brought near^(B) by the blood of Christ.^(C)

¹⁴ For he himself is our peace,^(D) who has made the two groups one^(E) and has destroyed the barrier, the dividing wall of hostility, ¹⁵ by setting aside in his flesh^(F) the law with its commands and regulations.^(G) His purpose was to create in himself one^(H) new humanity out of the two, thus making peace, ¹⁶ and in one body to reconcile both of them to God through the cross,^(I) by which he put to death their hostility. ¹⁷ He came and preached peace^(J) to you who were far away and peace to those who were near.^(K)

Unity and Maturity in the Body of Christ

4 As a prisoner^(A) for the Lord, then, I urge you to live a life worthy^(B) of the calling^(C) you have received. ² Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another^(D) in love.^{(E) 3} Make every effort to keep the unity^(F) of the Spirit through the bond of peace.^{(G) 4} There is one body^(H) and one Spirit,^(I) just as you were called to one hope when you were called^(J); ⁵ one Lord,^(K) one faith, one baptism; ⁶ one God and Father of all,^(L) who is over all and through all and in all.^(M)

¹⁹ For God was pleased^(A) to have all his fullness^(B) dwell in him, ²⁰ and through him to reconcile^(C) to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven,^(D) by making peace^(E) through his blood,^(F) shed on the cross.

²¹ Once you were alienated from God and were enemies^(G) in your minds^(H) because of^[a] your evil behavior. ²² But now he has reconciled^(I) you by Christ’s physical body^(J) through death to present you^(K) holy in his sight, without blemish and free from accusation^(L)— ²³ if you continue^(M) in your faith, established^(N) and firm, and do not move from the hope^(O) held out in the gospel. This is the gospel that you heard and that has been proclaimed to every creature under heaven,^(P) and of which I, Paul, have become a servant.^(Q)

Suffering for Doing Good

⁸ Finally, all of you, be like-minded,^(A) be sympathetic, love one another,^(B) be compassionate and humble.^{(C) 9} Do not repay evil with evil^(D) or insult with insult.^(E) On the contrary, repay evil with blessing,^(F) because to this^(G) you were called^(H) so that you may inherit a blessing.^(I)
