The High Priestly Prayer

17 When Jesus had spoken these words, ^(A)he lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, “Father, ^(B)the hour has come; ^(C)glorify your Son that the Son may ^(D)glorify you, ² since ^(E)you have given him authority over all flesh, ^(F)to give eternal life to all ^(G)whom you have given him.

^6 (A)“I have manifested your name to the people ^(B)whom you gave me out of the world. ^(C)Yours they were, and you gave them to me, and they have kept your word. ⁷ Now they know that everything ^(D)that you have given me is from you. ⁸ For I have given them ^(E)the words that you gave me, and they have received them and have come to know in truth that ^(F)I came from you; and ^(G)they have believed that you sent me. ⁹ I am praying for them. ^(H)I am not praying for the world but for those ^(I)whom you have given me, for ^(J)they are yours. ^10 (K)All mine are yours, and yours are mine, and ^(L)I am glorified in them.

^25 (A)Husbands, love your wives, as Christ loved the church and ^(B)gave himself up for her, ²⁶ that he might sanctify her, having cleansed her by ^(C)the washing of water ^(D)with the word, ²⁷ so ^(E)that he might present the church to himself in splendor, ^(F)without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.^[a]

^32 (A)He who did not spare his own Son but ^(B)gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things? ³³ Who shall bring any charge against God's elect? ^(C)It is God who justifies. ^34 (D)Who is to condemn? Christ Jesus is the one who died—more than that, who was raised—^(E)who is at the right hand of God, ^(F)who indeed is interceding for us.^[a]

¹⁵ Therefore he is ^(A)the mediator of a new covenant, so that ^(B)those who are called may ^(C)receive the promised eternal inheritance, ^(D)since a death has occurred that redeems them from the transgressions committed under the first covenant.^{[a] 16} For where a will is involved, the death of the one who made it must be established. ¹⁷ For ^(E)a will takes effect only at death, since it is not in force as long as the one who made it is alive. ¹⁸ Therefore not even the first covenant was inaugurated ^(F)without blood. ¹⁹ For when every commandment of the law had been declared by Moses to all the people, he took ^(G)the blood of calves and goats, ^(H)with water and scarlet wool and hyssop, and sprinkled both the book itself and all the people, ²⁰ saying, ^(I)“This is the blood of the covenant that God commanded for you.” ²¹ And in the same way he sprinkled with the blood both ^(J)the tent and all the vessels used in worship. ²² Indeed, under the law almost everything is purified with blood, and ^(K)without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness of sins.

²³ Thus it was necessary for ^(L)the copies of the heavenly things to be purified with these rites, but the heavenly things themselves with better sacrifices than these. ²⁴ For Christ has entered, not into holy places ^(M)made with hands, which are copies of the true things, but into heaven itself, now to appear in the presence of God ^(N)on our behalf. ²⁵ Nor was it to offer himself repeatedly, as ^(O)the high priest enters ^(P)the holy places every year with blood not his own, ²⁶ for then he would have had to suffer repeatedly since the foundation of the world. But as it is, ^(Q)he has appeared ^(R)once for all ^(S)at the end of the ages to put away sin by the sacrifice of himself. ²⁷ And just as ^(T)it is appointed for man to die once, and ^(U)after that comes judgment, ²⁸ so Christ, having been offered once ^(V)to bear the sins of ^(W)many, will appear ^(X)a second time, ^(Y)not to deal with sin but to save those who are eagerly ^(Z)waiting for him.

⁹ And they sang ^(A)a new song, saying,

^28 (A)Pay careful attention to yourselves and to all ^(B)the flock, in which ^(C)the Holy Spirit has made you ^(D)overseers, ^(E)to care for ^(F)the church of God,^[a] which he ^(G)obtained ^(H)with his own blood.^[b]

^11 (A)I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd ^(B)lays down his life for the sheep. ¹² He who is ^(C)a hired hand and not a shepherd, who does not own the sheep, sees the wolf coming and ^(D)leaves the sheep and flees, and the wolf snatches them and ^(E)scatters them. ¹³ He flees because ^(F)he is a hired hand and ^(G)cares nothing for the sheep. ^14 (H)I am the good shepherd. ^(I)I know my own and ^(J)my own know me, ^15 (K)just as the Father knows me and I know the Father; and ^(L)I lay down my life for the sheep. ¹⁶ And ^(M)I have other sheep that are not of this fold. ^(N)I must bring them also, and ^(O)they will listen to my voice. So there will be ^(P)one flock, ^(Q)one shepherd.

²¹ She will bear a son, and ^(A)you shall call his name Jesus, ^(B)for he will save his people from their sins.”
