but now I am going to him who sent me.(A) None of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’(B) Rather, you are filled with grief(C) because I have said these things. But very truly I tell you, it is for your good that I am going away. Unless I go away, the Advocate(D) will not come to you; but if I go, I will send him to you.(E) When he comes, he will prove the world to be in the wrong about sin and righteousness and judgment: about sin,(F) because people do not believe in me; 10 about righteousness,(G) because I am going to the Father,(H) where you can see me no longer; 11 and about judgment, because the prince of this world(I) now stands condemned.

12 “I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear.(J) 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth,(K) comes, he will guide you into all the truth.(L) He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine.(M) That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.”

The Work of the Spirit

“But now I am going to the one who sent me. Yet none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’ But because I have told you this, sorrow has filled your hearts. However, I’m telling you the truth. It’s for your advantage that I’m going away, because if I don’t go away, the Helper won’t come to you. But if I go, I will send him to you. When he comes, he will convict the world of sin, righteousness, and judgment— of sin, because they don’t believe in me; 10 of righteousness, because I’m going to the Father and you will no longer see me; 11 and of judgment, because the ruler of this world has been judged.[a]

12 “I still have a lot to say to you, but you cannot bear it now. 13 Yet when the Spirit of Truth comes, he’ll guide you into all truth. He won’t speak on his own accord, but he’ll speak whatever he hears and will declare to you the things that are to come. 14 He will glorify me, because he will take what is mine and declare it to you. 15 All that the Father has is mine. That is why I said, ‘He will take what is mine and declare it to you.’
