²⁸ I came from the Father and have come into the world; again, I am leaving the world and am going to the Father.”^(A)

Jesus Washes the Disciples’ Feet

13 Now before the festival of the Passover, Jesus knew that his hour had come to depart from this world and go to the Father. Having loved his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end.^(A)

³ Jesus, knowing that the Father had given all things into his hands and that he had come from God and was going to God,^(A)

¹⁴ Jesus answered, “Even if I testify on my own behalf, my testimony is valid because I know where I have come from and where I am going, but you do not know where I come from or where I am going.

⁵ But now I am going to him who sent me, yet none of you asks me, ‘Where are you going?’^(A)

⁹ When he had said this, as they were watching, he was lifted up, and a cloud took him out of their sight.^{(A) 10} While he was going and they were gazing up toward heaven, suddenly two men in white robes stood by them.^{(B) 11} They said, “Men of Galilee, why do you stand looking up toward heaven? This Jesus, who has been taken up from you into heaven, will come in the same way as you saw him go into heaven.”^(C)

⁵ So now, Father, glorify me in your own presence with the glory that I had in your presence before the world existed.^(A)

Sorrow Will Turn into Joy

¹⁶ “A little while, and you will no longer see me, and again a little while, and you will see me.”^(A)

²⁸ You heard me say to you, ‘I am going away, and I am coming to you.’ If you loved me, you would rejoice that I am going to the Father, because the Father is greater than I.^(A)

⁵¹ While he was blessing them, he withdrew from them and was carried up into heaven.^[a](A)
