25 “Though I have been speaking figuratively,(A) a time is coming(B) when I will no longer use this kind of language but will tell you plainly about my Father. 26 In that day you will ask in my name.(C) I am not saying that I will ask the Father on your behalf. 27 No, the Father himself loves you because you have loved me(D) and have believed that I came from God.(E) 28 I came from the Father and entered the world; now I am leaving the world and going back to the Father.”(F)

29 Then Jesus’ disciples said, “Now you are speaking clearly and without figures of speech.(G) 30 Now we can see that you know all things and that you do not even need to have anyone ask you questions. This makes us believe(H) that you came from God.”(I)

31 “Do you now believe?” Jesus replied. 32 “A time is coming(J) and in fact has come when you will be scattered,(K) each to your own home. You will leave me all alone.(L) Yet I am not alone, for my Father is with me.(M)

33 “I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.(N) In this world you will have trouble.(O) But take heart! I have overcome(P) the world.”

Jesus Prays to Be Glorified

17 After Jesus said this, he looked toward heaven(Q) and prayed:

“Father, the hour has come.(R) Glorify your Son, that your Son may glorify you.(S) For you granted him authority over all people(T) that he might give eternal life(U) to all those you have given him.(V) Now this is eternal life: that they know you,(W) the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom you have sent.(X) I have brought you glory(Y) on earth by finishing the work you gave me to do.(Z) And now, Father, glorify me(AA) in your presence with the glory I had with you(AB) before the world began.(AC)

Jesus Prays for His Disciples

“I have revealed you[a](AD) to those whom you gave me(AE) out of the world. They were yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word. Now they know that everything you have given me comes from you. For I gave them the words you gave me(AF) and they accepted them. They knew with certainty that I came from you,(AG) and they believed that you sent me.(AH) I pray for them.(AI) I am not praying for the world, but for those you have given me,(AJ) for they are yours. 10 All I have is yours, and all you have is mine.(AK) And glory has come to me through them. 11 I will remain in the world no longer, but they are still in the world,(AL) and I am coming to you.(AM) Holy Father, protect them by the power of[b] your name, the name you gave me, so that they may be one(AN) as we are one.(AO) 12 While I was with them, I protected them and kept them safe by[c] that name you gave me. None has been lost(AP) except the one doomed to destruction(AQ) so that Scripture would be fulfilled.(AR)

13 “I am coming to you now,(AS) but I say these things while I am still in the world, so that they may have the full measure of my joy(AT) within them. 14 I have given them your word and the world has hated them,(AU) for they are not of the world any more than I am of the world.(AV) 15 My prayer is not that you take them out of the world but that you protect them from the evil one.(AW) 16 They are not of the world, even as I am not of it.(AX) 17 Sanctify them by[d] the truth; your word is truth.(AY) 18 As you sent me into the world,(AZ) I have sent them into the world.(BA) 19 For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified.(BB)
