⁴ Remain in me, as I also remain in you.^(A) No branch can bear fruit by itself; it must remain in the vine. Neither can you bear fruit unless you remain in me.

⁶ Whoever claims to live in him must live as Jesus did.^(A)

²⁰ I have been crucified with Christ^(A) and I no longer live, but Christ lives in me.^(B) The life I now live in the body, I live by faith in the Son of God,^(C) who loved me^(D) and gave himself for me.^(E)

Dispute Over Whose Children Jesus’ Opponents Are

³¹ To the Jews who had believed him, Jesus said, “If you hold to my teaching,^(A) you are really my disciples.

⁹ Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ^(A) does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.^(B)

⁵⁶ Whoever eats my flesh and drinks my blood remains in me, and I in them.^(A)

¹¹ filled with the fruit of righteousness^(A) that comes through Jesus Christ—to the glory and praise of God.

²⁴ As for you, see that what you have heard from the beginning^(A) remains in you. If it does, you also will remain in the Son and in the Father.^{(B) 25} And this is what he promised us—eternal life.^(C)

²⁶ I am writing these things to you about those who are trying to lead you astray.^{(D) 27} As for you, the anointing^(E) you received from him remains in you, and you do not need anyone to teach you. But as his anointing teaches you about all things^(F) and as that anointing is real, not counterfeit—just as it has taught you, remain in him.^(G)

God’s Children and Sin

²⁸ And now, dear children,^(H) continue in him, so that when he appears^(I) we may be confident^(J) and unashamed before him at his coming.^(K)

⁵ “I am the vine; you are the branches. If you remain in me and I in you, you will bear much fruit;^(A) apart from me you can do nothing. ⁶ If you do not remain in me, you are like a branch that is thrown away and withers; such branches are picked up, thrown into the fire and burned.^{(B) 7} If you remain in me^(C) and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.^(D)
