³ You have already been cleansed^[a] by the word that I have spoken to you.^(A)

²⁶ in order to make her holy by cleansing her with the washing of water by the word,

¹⁷ Sanctify them in the truth; your word is truth.

²² Now that you have purified your souls^[a] by your obedience to the truth^[b] so that you have genuine mutual affection, love one another deeply from the heart.^[c](A)

¹⁰ Jesus said to him, “One who has bathed does not need to wash, except for the feet,^[a] but is entirely clean. And you^[b] are clean, though not all of you.”
