²⁷ You also are to testify, because you have been with me from the beginning.^(A)

¹⁴ And we have seen and do testify that the Father has sent his Son as the Savior of the world.

³⁹ We are witnesses to all that he did both in Judea and in Jerusalem. They put him to death by hanging him on a tree,^{(A) 40} but God raised him on the third day and allowed him to appear,^{(B) 41} not to all the people but to us who were chosen by God as witnesses and who ate and drank with him after he rose from the dead.^{(C) 42} He commanded us to preach to the people and to testify that he is the one ordained by God as judge of the living and the dead.^(D)

²⁴ This is the disciple who is testifying to these things and has written them, and we know that his testimony is true.^(A)

The Word of Life

1 We declare to you what was from the beginning, what we have heard, what we have seen with our eyes, what we have looked at and touched with our hands, concerning the word of life^(A)— ² this life was revealed, and we have seen it and testify to it and declare to you the eternal life that was with the Father and was revealed to us^(B)—

¹¹ That night the Lord stood near him and said, “Keep up your courage! For just as you have testified for me in Jerusalem, so you must bear witness also in Rome.”^(A)

⁴⁸ You are witnesses^[a] of these things.^(A)

Final Greetings and Benediction

¹² Through Silvanus, whom I consider a faithful brother, I have written this short letter to encourage you and to testify that this is the true grace of God. Stand fast in it.^(A)

Tending the Flock of God

5 Now as an elder myself and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, as well as one who shares in the glory to be revealed, I exhort the elders among you^(A)

²⁰ for we cannot keep from speaking about what we have seen and heard.”^(A)
