New King James Version
The Coming Rejection
26 (A)“But when the [a]Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, (B)He will testify of Me. 27 And (C)you also will bear witness, because (D)you have been with Me from the beginning.
Jesus Warns and Comforts His Disciples
16 “These things I have spoken to you, that you (E)should not be made to stumble. 2 (F)They will put you out of the synagogues; yes, the time is coming (G)that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service. 3 And (H)these things they will do [b]to you because they have not known the Father nor Me. 4 But these things I have told you, that when [c]the time comes, you may remember that I told you of them.
“And these things I did not say to you at the beginning, because I was with you.
The Work of the Holy Spirit
5 “But now I (I)go away to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’ 6 But because I have said these things to you, (J)sorrow has filled your heart. 7 Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but (K)if I depart, I will send Him to you.
