The Coming Rejection

^26 (A)“But when the ^[a]Helper comes, whom I shall send to you from the Father, the Spirit of truth who proceeds from the Father, ^(B)He will testify of Me. ²⁷ And ^(C)you also will bear witness, because ^(D)you have been with Me from the beginning.

Jesus Warns and Comforts His Disciples

16 “These things I have spoken to you, that you ^(E)should not be made to stumble. ^2 (F)They will put you out of the synagogues; yes, the time is coming ^(G)that whoever kills you will think that he offers God service. ³ And ^(H)these things they will do ^[b]to you because they have not known the Father nor Me. ⁴ But these things I have told you, that when ^[c]the time comes, you may remember that I told you of them.

“And these things I did not say to you at the beginning, because I was with you.

The Work of the Holy Spirit

⁵ “But now I ^(I)go away to Him who sent Me, and none of you asks Me, ‘Where are You going?’ ⁶ But because I have said these things to you, ^(J)sorrow has filled your heart. ⁷ Nevertheless I tell you the truth. It is to your advantage that I go away; for if I do not go away, the Helper will not come to you; but ^(K)if I depart, I will send Him to you.
