The Work of the Holy Spirit

²⁶ “When the Advocate^(A) comes, whom I will send to you from the Father^(B)—the Spirit of truth^(C) who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me.^(D)

²⁶ But the Advocate,^(A) the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name,^(B) will teach you all things^(C) and will remind you of everything I have said to you.^(D)

¹³ But when he, the Spirit of truth,^(A) comes, he will guide you into all the truth.^(B) He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. ¹⁴ He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. ¹⁵ All that belongs to the Father is mine.^(C) That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.”

¹⁶ And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate^(A) to help you and be with you forever— ¹⁷ the Spirit of truth.^(B) The world cannot accept him,^(C) because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be^[a] in you.

³² We are witnesses of these things,^(A) and so is the Holy Spirit,^(B) whom God has given to those who obey him.”

³² God has raised this Jesus to life,^(A) and we are all witnesses^(B) of it. ³³ Exalted^(C) to the right hand of God,^(D) he has received from the Father^(E) the promised Holy Spirit^(F) and has poured out^(G) what you now see and hear.

⁸ God, who knows the heart,^(A) showed that he accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them,^(B) just as he did to us.

⁶ This is the one who came by water and blood^(A)—Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.^{(B) 7} For there are three^(C) that testify: ⁸ the^[a] Spirit, the water and the blood; and the three are in agreement. ⁹ We accept human testimony,^(D) but God’s testimony is greater because it is the testimony of God,^(E) which he has given about his Son. ¹⁰ Whoever believes in the Son of God accepts this testimony.^(F) Whoever does not believe God has made him out to be a liar,^(G) because they have not believed the testimony God has given about his Son.

⁴ God also testified to it by signs, wonders and various miracles,^(A) and by gifts of the Holy Spirit^(B) distributed according to his will.^(C)
