⁵ Thomas said to him, “Lord, we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?”

¹⁶ Thomas, who was called the Twin,^[a] said to his fellow disciples, “Let us also go, that we may die with him.”

¹⁹ He answered them, “You faithless generation, how much longer must I be with you? How much longer must I put up with you? Bring him to me.”

²⁵ So the other disciples told him, “We have seen the Lord.” But he said to them, “Unless I see the mark of the nails in his hands and put my finger in the mark of the nails and my hand in his side, I will not believe.”^(A)

²⁶ A week later his disciples were again in the house, and Thomas was with them. Although the doors were shut, Jesus came and stood among them and said, “Peace be with you.”^{(B) 27} Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here and see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it in my side. Do not doubt but believe.”^{(C) 28} Thomas answered him, “My Lord and my God!”

¹² “This is my commandment, that you love one another as I have loved you.^(A)

²⁵ Then he said to them, “Oh, how foolish you are and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have declared!

Warning against Falling Away

¹¹ About this^[a] we have much to say that is hard to explain, since you have become sluggish in hearing. ¹² For though by this time you ought to be teachers, you need someone to teach you again the basic elements of the oracles of God. You need milk, not solid food,^(A)

¹⁷ And becoming aware of it, Jesus said to them, “Why are you talking about having no bread? Do you still not perceive or understand? Are your hearts hardened?^{(A) 18} Do you have eyes and fail to see? Do you have ears and fail to hear? And do you not remember?
