²⁸ You have heard Me ^(A)say to you, ‘I am going away and coming back to you.’ If you loved Me, you would rejoice because ^[a]I said, ^(B)‘I am going to the Father,’ for ^(C)My Father is greater than I.

⁹ But we see Jesus, ^(A)who was made ^[a]a little lower than the angels, for the suffering of death ^(B)crowned with glory and honor, that He, by the grace of God, might taste death ^(C)for everyone.

Bringing Many Sons to Glory

¹⁰ For it was fitting for Him, ^(D)for whom are all things and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons to glory, to make the captain of their salvation ^(E)perfect through sufferings. ¹¹ For ^(F)both He who ^[b]sanctifies and those who are being sanctified ^(G)are all of one, for which reason ^(H)He is not ashamed to call them brethren, ¹² saying:

¹⁴ Inasmuch then as the children have partaken of flesh and blood, He ^(L)Himself likewise shared in the same, ^(M)that through death He might destroy him who had the power of ^(N)death, that is, the devil, ¹⁵ and release those who ^(O)through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage.

² has in these last days spoken to us by His Son, whom He has appointed heir of all things, through whom also He made the ^[a]worlds; ^3 (A)who being the brightness of His glory and the express ^(B)image of His person, and ^(C)upholding all things by the word of His power, ^(D)when He had ^[b]by Himself ^[c]purged ^[d]our sins, ^(E)sat down at the right hand of the Majesty on high,

²¹ So Jesus said to them again, “Peace to you! ^(A)As the Father has sent Me, I also send you.”

¹⁷ Jesus said to her, “Do not cling to Me, for I have not yet ^(A)ascended to My Father; but go to ^(B)My brethren and say to them, ^(C)‘I am ascending to My Father and your Father, and to ^(D)My God and your God.’ ”

^18 (A)I will not leave you orphans; ^(B)I will come to you.

^8 (A)whom having not ^[a]seen you love. ^(B)Though now you do not see Him, yet believing, you rejoice with joy inexpressible and full of glory,

²⁴ Then comes the end, when He delivers ^(A)the kingdom to God the Father, when He puts an end to all rule and all authority and power. ²⁵ For He must reign ^(B)till He has put all enemies under His feet. ^26 (C)The last enemy that will be destroyed is death. ²⁷ For ^(D)“He has put all things under His feet.” But when He says “all things are put under Him,” it is evident that He who put all things under Him is excepted. ^28 (E)Now when all things are made subject to Him, then ^(F)the Son Himself will also be subject to Him who put all things under Him, that God may be all in all.

Sorrow Will Turn to Joy

¹⁶ “A ^(A)little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me, ^(B)because I go to the Father.”

¹⁷ Then some of His disciples said among themselves, “What is this that He says to us, ‘A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me’; and, ‘because I go to the Father’?” ¹⁸ They said therefore, “What is this that He says, ‘A little while’? We do not ^[a]know what He is saying.”

¹⁹ Now Jesus knew that they desired to ask Him, and He said to them, “Are you inquiring among yourselves about what I said, ‘A little while, and you will not see Me; and again a little while, and you will see Me’? ²⁰ Most assuredly, I say to you that you will weep and ^(C)lament, but the world will rejoice; and you will be sorrowful, but your sorrow will be turned into ^(D)joy. ^21 (E)A woman, when she is in labor, has sorrow because her hour has come; but as soon as she has given birth to the child, she no longer remembers the anguish, for joy that a human being has been born into the world. ²² Therefore you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and ^(F)your heart will rejoice, and your joy no one will take from you.
