⁷ Jesus answered and said to him, “What I am doing you ^(A)do not understand now, ^(B)but you will know after this.”

⁸ Although I heard, I did not understand. Then I said, “My lord, what shall be the end of these things?”

^16 (A)His disciples did not understand these things at first; ^(B)but when Jesus was glorified, ^(C)then they remembered that these things were written about Him and that they had done these things to Him.

²⁶ But ^(A)the ^[a]Helper, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will ^(B)send in My name, ^(C)He will teach you all things, and bring to your ^(D)remembrance all things that I said to you.

Be Patient and Persevering

⁷ Therefore be patient, brethren, until the coming of the Lord. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth, waiting patiently for it until it receives the early and latter rain. ⁸ You also be patient. Establish your hearts, for the coming of the Lord ^[a]is at hand.

⁹ Do not ^[b]grumble against one another, brethren, lest you be ^[c]condemned. Behold, the Judge is standing at the door! ^10 (A)My brethren, take the prophets, who spoke in the name of the Lord, as an example of suffering and ^(B)patience. ¹¹ Indeed ^(C)we count them blessed who ^(D)endure. You have heard of ^(E)the perseverance of Job and seen ^(F)the end intended by the Lord—that ^(G)the Lord is very compassionate and merciful.

¹⁰ Jesus said to him, “He who is bathed needs only to wash his feet, but is completely clean; and ^(A)you are clean, but not all of you.” ¹¹ For ^(B)He knew who would betray Him; therefore He said, “You are not all clean.”

¹² So when He had washed their feet, taken His garments, and sat down again, He said to them, “Do you ^[a]know what I have done to you?

³⁶ Simon Peter said to Him, “Lord, where are You going?”

Jesus answered him, “Where I ^(A)am going you cannot follow Me now, but ^(B)you shall follow Me afterward.”

¹² Blessed is he who waits, and comes to the one thousand three hundred and thirty-five days.
