⁶ He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, are you going to wash my feet?”

²⁷ the one who is coming after me; I am not worthy to untie the strap of his sandal.”

¹¹ “I baptize you with^[a] water for repentance, but the one who is coming after me is more powerful than I, and I am not worthy to carry his sandals. He will baptize you with^[b] the Holy Spirit and fire.^{(A) 12} His winnowing fork is in his hand, and he will clear his threshing floor and will gather his wheat into the granary, but the chaff he will burn with unquenchable fire.”^(B)

The Baptism of Jesus

¹³ Then Jesus came from Galilee to John at the Jordan, to be baptized by him.^{(C) 14} John would have prevented him, saying, “I need to be baptized by you, and do you come to me?”

⁸ But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’s knees, saying, “Go away from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man!”
