A New Commandment

³¹ When he had gone out, Jesus said, ^(A)“Now is the Son of Man glorified, and ^(B)God is glorified in him. ³² If God is glorified in him, ^(C)God will also glorify him in himself, and ^(D)glorify him at once. ³³ Little children, ^(E)yet a little while I am with you. You will seek me, and just ^(F)as I said to the Jews, so now I also say to you, ‘Where I am going you cannot come.’ ^34 (G)A new commandment ^(H)I give to you, ^(I)that you love one another: ^(J)just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. ^35 (K)By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another.”

The Son of Man Is Given Dominion

¹³ “I saw in the night visions,

² looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, ^(A)who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising ^(B)the shame, and ^(C)is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.

^18 (A)You shall not take vengeance or bear a grudge against the sons of your own people, but ^(B)you shall love your neighbor as yourself: I am the Lord.

Jesus Foretells Peter's Denial

³⁶ Simon Peter said to him, “Lord, where are you going?” ^(A)Jesus answered him, “Where I am going ^(B)you cannot follow me now, ^(C)but you will follow afterward.” ^37 (D)Peter said to him, “Lord, why can I not follow you now? I will lay down my life for you.” ³⁸ Jesus answered, “Will you lay down your life for me? Truly, truly, I say to you, ^(E)the rooster will not crow till you have denied me three times.

I Am the Way, and the Truth, and the Life

14 ^(A)“Let not your hearts be troubled. ^(B)Believe in God;^[a] believe also in me. ² In ^(C)my Father's house are many rooms. If it were not so, would I have told you that ^(D)I go to prepare a place for you?^{[b] 3} And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and will take you ^(E)to myself, that ^(F)where I am you may be also. ⁴ And you know the way to where I am going.”^[c]

The Coming of the Lord

¹³ But we do not want you to be uninformed, brothers, about those who are asleep, ^(A)that you may not grieve as others do ^(B)who have no hope. ¹⁴ For ^(C)since we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so, through Jesus, God will bring with him ^(D)those who have fallen asleep. ¹⁵ For this we declare to you ^(E)by a word from the Lord,^[a] that ^(F)we who are alive, who are left until ^(G)the coming of the Lord, will not precede those who have fallen asleep. ¹⁶ For ^(H)the Lord himself will descend ^(I)from heaven ^(J)with a cry of command, with the voice of ^(K)an archangel, and ^(L)with the sound of the trumpet of God. And ^(M)the dead in Christ will rise first. ¹⁷ Then we who are alive, who are left, will be ^(N)caught up together with them ^(O)in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so ^(P)we will always be with the Lord.

⁷ Behold, ^(A)he is coming with the clouds, and ^(B)every eye will see him, even those who pierced him, and all tribes of the earth will wail^[a] on account of him. Even so. Amen.

^5 (A)Thomas said to him, “Lord, ^(B)we do not know where you are going. How can we know the way?” ⁶ Jesus said to him, “I am ^(C)the way, and ^(D)the truth, and ^(E)the life. No one comes to the Father except through me. ^7 (F)If you had known me, you would have ^(G)known my Father also.^[a] From now on you do know him and ^(H)have seen him.”

^8 (I)Philip said to him, “Lord, ^(J)show us the Father, and it is enough for us.” ⁹ Jesus said to him, “Have I been with you so long, and you still do not know me, Philip? ^(K)Whoever has seen me has seen the Father. How can you say, ‘Show us the Father’? ¹⁰ Do you not believe that ^(L)I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words that I say to you ^(M)I do not speak on my own authority, but the Father who dwells in me does his works. ¹¹ Believe me that ^(N)I am in the Father and the Father is in me, or else ^(O)believe on account of the works themselves.

¹² “Truly, truly, I say to you, ^(P)whoever believes in me will also do the works that I do; and greater works than these will he do, because I ^(Q)am going to the Father. ^13 (R)Whatever you ask in my name, this I will do, that ^(S)the Father may be glorified in the Son. ^14 (T)If you ask me^[b] anything in my name, I will do it.
