²⁴ Simon Peter therefore motioned to him to ask Jesus of whom he was speaking.

⁴⁰ When he had given him permission, Paul stood on the steps and motioned to the people for silence, and when there was a great hush, he addressed them in the Hebrew^[a] language, saying:^(A)

¹⁶ So Paul stood up and with a gesture began to speak:

“Fellow Israelites^[a] and others who fear God, listen.

¹⁷ He motioned to them with his hand to be silent and described for them how the Lord had brought him out of the prison. And he added, “Tell this to James and to the brothers and sisters.” Then he left and went to another place.^(A)

⁷ So they signaled their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both boats, so that they began to sink.

²² When he did come out, he was unable to speak to them, and they realized that he had seen a vision in the sanctuary. He kept motioning to them and remained unable to speak.
