²³ Now ^(A)there was ^[a]leaning on Jesus’ bosom one of His disciples, whom Jesus loved.

⁷ Therefore ^(A)that disciple whom Jesus loved said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” Now when Simon Peter heard that it was the Lord, he put on his outer garment (for he had removed it), and plunged into the sea.

² Then she ran and came to Simon Peter, and to the ^(A)other disciple, ^(B)whom Jesus loved, and said to them, “They have taken away the Lord out of the tomb, and we do not know where they have laid Him.”

²⁶ When Jesus therefore saw His mother, and ^(A)the disciple whom He loved standing by, He said to His mother, ^(B)“Woman, behold your son!”

The Beloved Disciple and His Book

²⁰ Then Peter, turning around, saw the disciple ^(A)whom Jesus loved following, ^(B)who also had leaned on His breast at the supper, and said, “Lord, who is the one who betrays You?”

^16 (A)He had in His right hand seven stars, ^(B)out of His mouth went a sharp two-edged sword, ^(C)and His countenance was like the sun shining in its strength. ¹⁷ And ^(D)when I saw Him, I fell at His feet as dead. But ^(E)He laid His right hand on me, saying ^[a]to me, “Do not be afraid; ^(F)I am the First and the Last. ^18 (G)I am He who lives, and was dead, and behold, ^(H)I am alive forevermore. Amen. And ^(I)I have the keys of ^[b]Hades and of Death.

²⁴ This is the disciple who ^(A)testifies of these things, and wrote these things; and we know that his testimony is true.

²⁵ Then, leaning ^[a]back on Jesus’ breast, he said to Him, “Lord, who is it?”

³⁶ Then the Jews said, “See how He loved him!”
