²³ One of them, the disciple whom Jesus loved,^(A) was reclining next to him.

²⁶ When Jesus saw his mother^(A) there, and the disciple whom he loved^(B) standing nearby, he said to her, “Woman,^[a] here is your son,”

²⁰ Peter turned and saw that the disciple whom Jesus loved^(A) was following them. (This was the one who had leaned back against Jesus at the supper and had said, “Lord, who is going to betray you?”)^(B)

⁷ Then the disciple whom Jesus loved^(A) said to Peter, “It is the Lord!” As soon as Simon Peter heard him say, “It is the Lord,” he wrapped his outer garment around him (for he had taken it off) and jumped into the water.

² So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved,^(A) and said, “They have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don’t know where they have put him!”^(B)

¹⁶ In his right hand he held seven stars,^(A) and coming out of his mouth was a sharp, double-edged sword.^(B) His face was like the sun^(C) shining in all its brilliance.

¹⁷ When I saw him, I fell at his feet^(D) as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me^(E) and said: “Do not be afraid.^(F) I am the First and the Last.^{(G) 18} I am the Living One; I was dead,^(H) and now look, I am alive for ever and ever!^(I) And I hold the keys of death and Hades.^(J)

³⁶ Then the Jews said, “See how he loved him!”^(A)

⁵ Now Jesus loved Martha and her sister and Lazarus.

³ So the sisters sent word to Jesus, “Lord, the one you love^(A) is sick.”
