² During supper, when ^(A)the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him,

¹³ Let no one say when he is tempted, “I am being tempted by God,” for God cannot be tempted with evil, and he himself tempts no one. ¹⁴ But each person is tempted when he is lured and enticed by his own desire. ¹⁵ Then desire ^(A)when it has conceived gives birth to sin, and ^(B)sin when it is fully grown brings forth death.

¹⁶ Do not be deceived, my beloved brothers. ^17 (C)Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, coming down from ^(D)the Father of lights, ^(E)with whom there is no variation or shadow due to change.^[a]

³ But Peter said, “Ananias, why has ^(A)Satan filled your heart to lie ^(B)to the Holy Spirit and ^(C)to keep back for yourself part of the proceeds of the land?

¹⁷ for ^(A)God has put it into their hearts to carry out his purpose by being of one mind and ^(B)handing over their royal power to the beast, until the words of God are fulfilled.

³ among whom we all once lived in ^(A)the passions of our flesh, carrying out the desires of the body^[a] and the mind, and ^(B)were by nature ^(C)children of wrath, like the rest of mankind.^[b]

Commendation of Titus

¹⁶ But ^(A)thanks be to God, ^(B)who put into the heart of Titus the same earnest care I have for you.

²⁶ Jesus answered, ^(A)“It is he to whom I will give this morsel of bread ^(B)when I have dipped it.” So when he had dipped the morsel, ^(C)he gave it to Judas, ^(D)the son of Simon Iscariot. ²⁷ Then after he had taken the morsel, ^(E)Satan entered into him. Jesus said to him, ^(F)“What you are going to do, do quickly.”

⁷⁰ Jesus answered them, ^(A)“Did I not choose you, ^(B)the twelve? And yet one of you is ^(C)a devil.” ⁷¹ He spoke of Judas ^(D)the son of Simon Iscariot, for ^(E)he, one of the twelve, was going to betray him.
