The Triumphal Entry

12 The(A) next day, when the large crowd that had come to the festival heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem, 13 they took palm branches(B) and went out to meet him. They kept shouting:

“Hosanna!(C)
Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord[a](D) —the King of Israel!” (E)

14 Jesus found a young donkey(F) and sat on it, just as it is written:

15 Do not be afraid,(G)
Daughter Zion. Look, your King is coming,
sitting on a donkey’s colt.[b](H)

16 His disciples did not understand these things at first. However, when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him(I) and that they had done these things to him.

17 Meanwhile, the crowd, which had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb(J) and raised him from the dead, continued to testify.[c] 18 This is also why the crowd met him, because they heard he had done this sign. 19 Then the Pharisees said to one another, “You see? You’ve accomplished nothing. Look, the world has gone after him!” (K)

The King Enters Jerusalem(A)

12 The next day, the large crowd that had come to the festival heard that Jesus was coming into Jerusalem. 13 So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, shouting,

“Hosanna![a]
How blessed is the one who comes
in the name of the Lord,[b] the King of Israel!”

14 Then Jesus found a young donkey and sat upon it, as it is written:

15 “Stop being afraid, people[c] of Zion.
Look, your king is coming,
    sitting upon a donkey’s colt!”[d]

16 At first, his disciples didn’t understand these things. However, when Jesus had been glorified, they remembered that these things had been written about him and that people[e] had done these things to him. 17 So the crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to testify to what they had seen.[f] 18 The crowd was going out to meet Jesus[g] because they had heard that he had performed this sign. 19 Then the Pharisees told one another, “You see, there is nothing you can do. Look, the world has gone after him!”
