6 (He didn’t say this because he cared for the poor, but because he was a thief. He kept the common purse, and used to help himself to what was in it.)
7 “Let her alone,” replied Jesus. “She’s been keeping it for the day of my burial! 8 You always have the poor with you, but you won’t always have me.”

New International Version
6 He did not say this because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; as keeper of the money bag,(A) he used to help himself to what was put into it.
7 “Leave her alone,” Jesus replied. “It was intended that she should save this perfume for the day of my burial.(B) 8 You will always have the poor among you,[a](C) but you will not always have me.”
