⁶ (He said this not because he cared about the poor but because he was a thief; he kept the common purse and used to steal what was put into it.)

²⁹ Some thought that, because Judas had the common purse, Jesus was telling him, “Buy what we need for the festival,” or that he should give something to the poor.

⁶ But you have dishonored the poor person. Is it not the rich who oppress you? Is it not they who drag you into the courts?^(A)

¹³ He said to them, “It is written,

² For if a person with gold rings and in fine clothes comes into your assembly, and if a poor person in dirty clothes also comes in,

²² abstain from every form of evil.

¹⁰ They asked only one thing, that we remember the poor, which was actually what I was^[a] eager to do.^(A)

¹⁹ and not only that, but he has also been appointed by the churches to travel with us while we are administering this generous undertaking^[a] for the glory of the Lord himself^[b] and to show our goodwill.^{(A) 20} We are making this arrangement lest anyone blame us about this generous gift that we are administering, ²¹ for we are setting our minds on what is right not only before the Lord but also before the people.^(B)

¹⁰ thieves, the greedy, drunkards, revilers, swindlers—none of these will inherit the kingdom of God.
