⁴⁸ There is a judge for the one who rejects me and does not accept my words; the very words I have spoken will condemn them^(A) at the last day.

¹⁶ “Whoever listens to you listens to me; whoever rejects you rejects me; but whoever rejects me rejects him who sent me.”^(A)

²⁷ Just as people are destined to die once,^(A) and after that to face judgment,^{(B) 28} so Christ was sacrificed once^(C) to take away the sins of many; and he will appear a second time,^(D) not to bear sin,^(E) but to bring salvation^(F) to those who are waiting for him.^(G)

¹⁶ This will take place on the day when God judges people’s secrets^(A) through Jesus Christ,^(B) as my gospel^(C) declares.

⁸ He will punish^(A) those who do not know God^(B) and do not obey the gospel of our Lord Jesus.^(C)

²⁴ Martha answered, “I know he will rise again in the resurrection^(A) at the last day.”^(B)

¹⁷ For God did not send his Son into the world^(A) to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.^{(B) 18} Whoever believes in him is not condemned,^(C) but whoever does not believe stands condemned already because they have not believed in the name of God’s one and only Son.^{(D) 19} This is the verdict: Light^(E) has come into the world, but people loved darkness instead of light because their deeds were evil.^{(F) 20} Everyone who does evil hates the light, and will not come into the light for fear that their deeds will be exposed.^(G)

²⁵ See to it that you do not refuse^(A) him who speaks.^(B) If they did not escape when they refused him who warned^(C) them on earth, how much less will we, if we turn away from him who warns us from heaven?^(D)

²⁹ How much more severely do you think someone deserves to be punished who has trampled the Son of God^(A) underfoot,^(B) who has treated as an unholy thing the blood of the covenant^(C) that sanctified them,^(D) and who has insulted the Spirit^(E) of grace?^{(F) 30} For we know him who said, “It is mine to avenge; I will repay,”^[a](G) and again, “The Lord will judge his people.”^{[b](H) 31} It is a dreadful thing^(I) to fall into the hands^(J) of the living God.^(K)
