John 12:43-13:7

^43 (A)for they loved the glory that comes from man more than the glory that comes from God.

Jesus Came to Save the World

⁴⁴ And Jesus cried out and said, ^(B)“Whoever believes in me, believes not in me but ^(C)in him who sent me. ⁴⁵ And ^(D)whoever ^(E)sees me sees him who sent me. ^46 (F)I have come into the world as light, so that whoever believes in me may not remain in darkness. ⁴⁷ If anyone ^(G)hears my words and does not keep them, ^(H)I do not judge him; for ^(I)I did not come to judge the world but to save the world. ^48 (J)The one who rejects me and does not receive my words has a judge; ^(K)the word that I have spoken will judge him ^(L)on the last day. ⁴⁹ For ^(M)I have not spoken on my own authority, but the Father ^(N)who sent me has himself given me ^(O)a commandment—what to say and what to speak. ⁵⁰ And I know that his commandment is eternal life. What I say, therefore, I say as the Father has told me.”

Jesus Washes the Disciples' Feet

13 Now ^(P)before ^(Q)the Feast of the Passover, when Jesus knew that ^(R)his hour had come ^(S)to depart out of this world to the Father, ^(T)having loved ^(U)his own who were in the world, he loved them to the end. ² During supper, when ^(V)the devil had already put it into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray him, ³ Jesus, knowing ^(W)that the Father had given all things into his hands, and that ^(X)he had come from God and ^(Y)was going back to God, ⁴ rose from supper. He laid aside his outer garments, and taking a towel, ^(Z)tied it around his waist. ⁵ Then he ^(AA)poured water into a basin and began to wash the disciples' feet and to wipe them with the towel that was wrapped around him. ⁶ He came to Simon Peter, who said to him, “Lord, do you wash my feet?” ^7 (AB)Jesus answered him, “What I am doing ^(AC)you do not understand now, but afterward you will understand.”
