^43 (A)for they loved the praise of men more than the praise of God.

^44 (A)How can you believe, who receive honor from one another, and do not seek ^(B)the honor that comes from the only God?

⁵ But all their works they do to ^(A)be seen by men. They make their phylacteries broad and enlarge the borders of their garments. ^6 (B)They love the ^[a]best places at feasts, the best seats in the synagogues, ⁷ greetings in the marketplaces, and to be called by men, ‘Rabbi, Rabbi.’

^41 (A)“I do not receive honor from men.

¹⁵ And He said to them, “You are those who ^(A)justify yourselves ^(B)before men, but ^(C)God knows your hearts. For ^(D)what is highly esteemed among men is an abomination in the sight of God.

^6 (A)Nor did we seek glory from men, either from you or from others, when ^(B)we might have ^(C)made demands ^(D)as apostles of Christ.

¹⁸ For ^(A)not he who commends himself is approved, but ^(B)whom the Lord commends.

² Therefore, ^(A)when you do a charitable deed, do not sound a trumpet before you as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Assuredly, I say to you, they have their reward.

^5 (A)Therefore judge nothing before the time, until the Lord comes, who will both bring to ^(B)light the hidden things of darkness and ^(C)reveal the ^[a]counsels of the hearts. ^(D)Then each one’s praise will come from God.
