John 12:40-42

40 He has blinded(A) their eyes
and hardened their hearts,(B)
so that they would not see with their eyes
or understand with their hearts,
and be converted,(C)
and I would heal them.(D)[a]
41 Isaiah said these things because[b] he saw His glory(E) and spoke about Him.
42 Nevertheless, many did believe in Him even among the rulers,(F) but because of the Pharisees they did not confess Him, so they would not be banned from the synagogue.

40 “He has blinded their eyes

so they can neither see with their eyes,
nor understand with their hearts,
nor turn—and I would heal them.”[a](A)
41 Isaiah said this because he saw Jesus’ glory(B) and spoke about him.(C)
42 Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him.(D) But because of the Pharisees(E) they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue;(F)
