John 12:36-38
Lexham English Bible
36 While you have the light, believe in the light, in order that you may become sons of light.” Jesus said these things, and then he went away and[a] was hidden from them.
The People Still Refuse to Believe
37 But as many signs as he had performed before them, they did not believe in him, 38 in order that the word of the prophet Isaiah would be fulfilled, who said,
“Lord, who has believed our message?
And to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”[b]
Footnotes
- John 12:36 Here “and” is supplied because the previous participle (“went away”) has been translated as a finite verb
- John 12:38 A quotation from Isa 53:1
John 12:36-38
English Standard Version
36 While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become (A)sons of light.”
The Unbelief of the People
When Jesus had said these things, he departed and hid himself from them. 37 Though he had done so many signs before them, they still did not believe in him, 38 (B)so that the word spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled:
(C)“Lord, who has believed what he heard from us,
and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”
