³⁶ While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become ^(A)sons of light.”

The Unbelief of the People

When Jesus had said these things, he departed and hid himself from them.

⁸ for ^(A)at one time you were ^(B)darkness, but now you are light in the Lord. ^(C)Walk as children of light

⁵ For you are all ^(A)children^[a] of light, children of the day. We are not of the night or of the darkness.

^47 (A)For so the Lord has commanded us, saying,

⁴⁸ And when the Gentiles heard this, they began rejoicing and ^(E)glorifying the word of the Lord, and as many as were appointed to eternal life believed.

⁵⁹ So ^(A)they picked up stones to throw at him, but Jesus hid himself and went out of the temple.

⁸ The master commended the dishonest manager for his ^(A)shrewdness. For ^(B)the sons of this world^[a] are ^(C)more shrewd in dealing with their own generation than ^(D)the sons of light.

⁵⁴ Jesus therefore ^(A)no longer walked openly among the Jews, but went from there to the region near the wilderness, to a town called Ephraim, and there he stayed with the disciples.

^39 (A)Again they sought to arrest him, but he escaped from their hands.

⁴⁰ He went away again across the Jordan to the place ^(B)where John had been baptizing at first, and there he remained.

⁷ He came as a ^(A)witness, to bear witness about the light, ^(B)that all might believe through him.
