³⁴ The crowd spoke up, “We have heard from the Law^(A) that the Messiah will remain forever,^(B) so how can you say, ‘The Son of Man^(C) must be lifted up’?^(D) Who is this ‘Son of Man’?”

²⁴ “‘My servant David^(A) will be king^(B) over them, and they will all have one shepherd.^(C) They will follow my laws and be careful to keep my decrees.^{(D) 25} They will live in the land I gave to my servant Jacob, the land where your ancestors lived.^(E) They and their children and their children’s children will live there forever,^(F) and David my servant will be their prince forever.^(G)

¹⁴ He was given authority,^(A) glory and sovereign power; all nations and peoples of every language worshiped him.^(B) His dominion is an everlasting dominion that will not pass away, and his kingdom^(C) is one that will never be destroyed.^(D)

¹⁴ Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness,^(A) so the Son of Man must be lifted up,^{[a](B) 15} that everyone who believes^(C) may have eternal life in him.”^[b](D)

¹⁶ For God so loved^(E) the world that he gave^(F) his one and only Son,^(G) that whoever believes^(H) in him shall not perish but have eternal life.^(I)

²⁷ Then the sovereignty, power and greatness of all the kingdoms^(A) under heaven will be handed over to the holy people^(B) of the Most High.^(C) His kingdom will be an everlasting^(D) kingdom, and all rulers will worship^(E) and obey him.’

⁴⁴ “In the time of those kings, the God of heaven will set up a kingdom that will never be destroyed, nor will it be left to another people. It will crush^(A) all those kingdoms^(B) and bring them to an end, but it will itself endure forever.^(C)
