The Son of Man Must Be Lifted Up

^27 (A)“Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father, ^(B)save me from ^(C)this hour’? But ^(D)for this purpose I have come to ^(E)this hour.

²³ And Jesus answered them, ^(A)“The hour has come ^(B)for the Son of Man to be glorified.

⁷ In the days of his flesh, ^(A)Jesus^[a] offered up prayers and supplications, ^(B)with loud cries and tears, to him ^(C)who was able to save him from death, and ^(D)he was heard because of his reverence.

One of You Will Betray Me

²¹ After saying these things, ^(A)Jesus was troubled in his spirit, and testified, ^(B)“Truly, truly, I say to you, ^(C)one of you will betray me.”

⁴⁴ And ^(A)being in agony he prayed more earnestly; and his sweat became like great drops of blood falling down to the ground.^[a]

⁴² Again, for the second time, he went away and prayed, “My Father, if this cannot pass unless I drink it, ^(A)your will be done.”

⁵ Consequently, ^(A)when Christ^[a] came into the world, he said,

⁸ When he said above, “You have neither desired nor taken pleasure in ^(C)sacrifices and offerings and burnt offerings and sin offerings” (these are offered according to the law), ⁹ then he added, ^(D)“Behold, I have come to do your will.” He does away with the first in order to establish the second.

¹⁴ Since therefore the children share in flesh and blood, he himself likewise ^(A)partook of the same things, that ^(B)through death he might ^(C)destroy ^(D)the one who has the power of death, that is, the devil,
