John 12:23-36
New American Standard Bible
23 But Jesus *answered them by saying, “(A)The hour has come for the Son of Man to (B)be glorified. 24 Truly, truly I say to you, (C)unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. 25 (D)The one who loves his [a]life loses it, and the one who (E)hates his [b]life in this world will keep it [c]to eternal life. 26 If anyone [d]serves Me, he must follow Me; and (F)where I am, there My servant will be also; if anyone [e]serves Me, the Father will (G)honor him.
Jesus Foretells His Death
27 “(H)Now My soul has become troubled; and what am I to say? ‘(I)Father, save Me from (J)this hour’? But for this purpose I came to this hour. 28 (K)Father, glorify Your name.” Then a (L)voice came out of heaven: “I have both glorified it, and will glorify it again.” 29 So the crowd who stood by and heard it were saying that it had thundered; others were saying, “(M)An angel has spoken to Him!” 30 Jesus responded and said, “(N)This voice has not come for My sake, but for yours. 31 (O)Now judgment is upon this world; now (P)the ruler of this world will be cast out. 32 And I, if I (Q)am lifted up from the earth, will (R)draw all people to Myself.” 33 Now He was saying this (S)to indicate what kind of death He was going to die. 34 The crowd then answered Him, “We have heard from (T)the Law that (U)the [f]Christ is to remain forever; and how is it that You say, ‘The (V)Son of Man must be (W)lifted up’? Who is this (X)Son of Man?” 35 So Jesus said to them, “(Y)For a little while longer (Z)the Light is among you. (AA)Walk while you have the Light, so that darkness will not overtake you; also, the one who (AB)walks in the darkness does not know where he is going. 36 While you have the Light, (AC)believe in the Light, so that you may become (AD)sons of Light.”
These things Jesus proclaimed, and He went away and (AE)hid Himself from them.

God Is Light
5 (A)This is the message we have heard from Him and announce to you, that (B)God is Light, and in Him there is no darkness at all. 6 (C)If we say that we have fellowship with Him and yet walk in the darkness, we (D)lie and (E)do not practice the truth; 7 but if we (F)walk in the Light as (G)He Himself is in the Light, we have fellowship with one another, and (H)the blood of Jesus His Son cleanses us from all sin. 8 (I)If we say that we have no sin, we are deceiving ourselves and the (J)truth is not in us. 9 (K)If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous, so that He will forgive us our sins and (L)cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 10 (M)If we say that we have not sinned, we (N)make Him a liar and (O)His word is not in us.

8 [a]On the other hand, I am writing (A)a new commandment to you, which is true in Him and in you, because (B)the darkness is passing away and (C)the true Light is already shining. 9 The one who says that he is in the Light and yet (D)hates his (E)brother or sister is in the darkness until now. 10 (F)The one who loves his brother and sister remains in the Light, and there is nothing in him to cause stumbling. 11 But the one who (G)hates his brother or sister is in the darkness and (H)walks in the darkness, and does not know where he is going because the darkness has (I)blinded his eyes.
