^2 (A)There they made Him a supper; and Martha served, but Lazarus was one of those who sat at the table with Him.

²⁰ Behold, ^(A)I stand at the door and knock. ^(B)If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, ^(C)I will come in to him and dine with him, and he with Me.

^27 (A)For who is greater, he who sits at the table, or he who serves? Is it not he who sits at the table? Yet ^(B)I am among you as the One who serves.

Mary and Martha Worship and Serve

³⁸ Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named ^(A)Martha welcomed Him into her house. ³⁹ And she had a sister called Mary, ^(B)who also ^(C)sat at ^[a]Jesus’ feet and heard His word. ⁴⁰ But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, “Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me.”

⁴¹ And ^[b]Jesus answered and said to her, “Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. ⁴² But ^(D)one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her.”

The Plot to Kill Lazarus

⁹ Now a great many of the Jews knew that He was there; and they came, not for Jesus’ sake only, but that they might also see Lazarus, ^(A)whom He had raised from the dead. ^10 (B)But the chief priests plotted to put Lazarus to death also,

The Anointing at Bethany^(A)

^3 (B)And being in Bethany at the house of Simon the leper, as He sat at the table, a woman came having an alabaster flask of very costly ^[a]oil of spikenard. Then she broke the flask and poured it on His head.

⁴³ Now when He had said these things, He cried with a loud voice, “Lazarus, come forth!” ⁴⁴ And he who had died came out bound hand and foot with ^(A)graveclothes, and ^(B)his face was wrapped with a cloth. Jesus said to them, “Loose him, and let him go.”

¹² Then He also said to him who invited Him, “When you give a dinner or a supper, do not ask your friends, your brothers, your relatives, nor rich neighbors, lest they also invite you back, and you be repaid.

^37 (A)Blessed are those servants whom the master, when he comes, will find watching. Assuredly, I say to you that he will gird himself and have them sit down to eat, and will come and serve them.
